had a friendly little debate with my mum yesterday over a no of issues.. one of them being my relationship with my guy friends.. she thinks that by engaging in their "guys' play" i.e. smacking, punching, kicking and the likes, they will not harbour any respect for me.. which i honestly think is just absurd. i do believe that guys are capable of differentiating between play time and when to treat a girl with due respect. but of course mother dearest didn't see it that way. she said,"girls should be treated as girls - no punching, no kicking, no pushing, no shoving - guys tend to forget u're the weaker sex sometimes and use alot of force when they hit you." (which is true in a way.. but that's cos i hit them hard too.) and then the ultimate statement of year came up,"and girls tend to lose out when they play ard with boys. all that grabbing.. what if they accidentally grab u somewhere else?"
right. for starters.. i DUN grab my guy friends. i just smack damn hard on the back/kick them playfully.
then i tried telling her that somehow it just isn't as fun when u have to restrain urself from punching/kicking those nitwits and act like a young lady instead. i enjoy the fun and crazy moments i haf from not having to act all girly and demure.. it seems so much more interesting to be buddies with my guy friends than to have to put on this stupid facade of 'i'm-a-prim-and-proper-woman-so-dun-punch/kick-me-or-i'll-hate-you-for-the-rest-of-my-life' shit. i mean just look at the relationship i have with the church guys.. we're so much closer.. there's this bond that makes me feel so comfortable whenever i'm with them.. and then i think back about the strained relationship i had with the guys in jc.. and how i had to pretend to be somebody i wasn't cos i wanted to "follow in mama's footsteps and be one step closer to being a girl." it was horrible. they did have a certain "respect" for me. but it wasn't the kind that i desired. it was more of a "keep-a-distance-from-her-just-in-case-u-piss-her-off-with-one-of-ur-anti-young-lady-antics" or at least that's what i felt it was like.
and then we got to the topic of dating. i'd think that after all those years of debate and disputes over the "best age" to get started, she'd have lowered her standards. but it just gets worse. now.. she's trying to psycho me into thinking that one should only start dating AFTER she graduates from uni and STARTS WORKING. rejoice with me all ye people! i am officially headed towards spinster-hood. and in all honesty, i think her idea of dating and my idea of dating are poles apart.
MOTHER's idea of dating: group dating.(which explains the whole 'ur-first-date-with-weijun-should-be-in-a-group' tirade.. i had to explain to her a million times that i was going to social night with him as a FRIEND. but it obviously didn't sink in..and from yesterday's talk, i've more or less given up hope on that ever happening..)
DAUGHTER's idea of dating: one-on-one dating.. but not being in a steady relationship yet.
i seriously think some of my mum's philosphies abt guys and dating are outdated. u pple should sit in one day when we're at this topic.. so that if i ever become a spinster in my later years, it'd be less of a shock.
